Reverend Bruce Johnson
A native of northern Minnesota and a life-long Unitarian Universalist, Rev. Johnson graduated from Bowdoin College in 1975, and received an M.Div. from Harvard Divinity School in 1982. He has served congregations in Rutland, Vermont; Bloomington, Indiana; Detroit, Michigan; Urbana, Illinois; and Indianapolis, Indiana, before coming to the Upper Valley in the fall of 2003.
"As a minister, my commitment is to cultivate within myself and others an openness to the creative, sustaining, healing and transforming power of the Spirit of Life. I discover this Spirit primarily within relationships: I draw upon the stories, symbols, and rituals of the world's religious traditions for my own spiritual nurture as well as in my preaching, teaching, and pastoral care. For me, this eclectic mix of theological resources comes together in the integrity of soul-making and community building -- the never-ending task of becoming human. My theological mentor, James Luther Adams, spoke of 'being human, religiously,' and I think that phrasing gets it exactly right: the purpose of religion is to help us become ever more human."
