Sunday School: Mellow Maroon Mountains
For elementary students who are feeling introspective and calm today!
Some Sunday mornings, we want to sing, listen to stories, and do private spiritual work while listening for the voice of The Great Spirit. On these days, children (with their parents' help) can choose the Mellow Maroon Mountains class.
Once a month, the class will have Children's Choir, led by Molly Mitchell. We'll choose songs that lift up our hearts and which speak about our principles and values. We will learn about some UU composers and lyricists as well as good breathing and other choral techniques.
On other Sundays, this class uses Spirit Play, a new movement within Unitarian Universalist religious education, for the children's spiritual work. Children enter class after meeting the GateKeeper and getting ready - feeling calm and gentle. Spirit Play stories are multi-sensory tales which connect with our Seven Principles, sources, and the Spirit of Love and Mystery That Some People Call God. After story, the children embark on their work - a response to the story or to any other story which they have heard. We have a variety of media for the children as well as the story boxes.
We say thanks and share a feast at the end of class while we wait for parents to rejoin us at 11:20. Spirit Play is so absorbing that we may run over time! Just bring your cup of coffee and join our feast!
