Sunday School Preschool at the UUCUV
In our preschool, children from the age of "I can listen to a story" through Kindergarten meet in the sunny storytelling section of the Library with two adult teachers.
- We begin class with some sort of stretching or yoga movement.
- We light our chalice with a special poem-with-motions:
We light this chalice
To celebrate Unitarian Universalism.
This is the church of the open mind.
This is the church of the open heart.
This is the church of the helping hands. - Each child is invited to speak a joy or concern while hugging a giant, soft, stuffed replica of the Earth!
- There is usually a story or game to illustrate the main idea of the lesson, followed by the children's spiritual work - individual and cooperative art, hiking, labyrinth walking, re-enacting the story, or an age-appropriate service project.
- We share a snack at the end of class and wait for parents to rejoin us promptly at 11:30.
- When you arrive for the service, it may be helpful to leave outdoor clothing in your child's classroom, so they are ready to put it on and go out exploring.
- Please don't hesitate to contact Jo Hayes, Mamma of four-year-old Sophia, who is pleased to answer questions about our program: JoHayes(at)valley.net
